Update on Court Case

Over the past several weeks, there have been many ups and downs with the court cases to protect TPS holders across the United States. We wanted to provide you with an update on these cases.

First, we have some good news regarding the case protecting TPS for Venezuela. The court ordered DHS to take two steps to comply with its September 5 order.

First, DHS must update the USCIS Venezuela TPS webpage to show that the 2023 designation of Venezuela has been extended until October 2, 2026, and that Venezuela TPS work permits have been automatically extended until April 2, 2026.

Second, DHS must re-open the TPS re-registration period for Venezuelan TPS holders for a 24-hour period.

Unfortunately, our other update brings bad news. We are very sorry to share that the Ninth Circuit has granted the government's motion to stay the district court order protecting TPS holders from Honduras, Nepal, and Nicaragua. The Ninth Circuit's decision allows the termination of TPS for all three countries to go into effect while the litigation continues. Our legal team is currently discussing next steps.

Through all of the ups and downs, the Massachusetts TPS Committee is committed to continuing the fight for our fellow TPS holders and their families. We especially want to support our neighbors from Honduras, Nepal, and Nicaragua who have recently lost their TPS protections. The consequences of the Trump Administration's actions are serious for those families.

On Thursday, September 25th, at 7:00 PM, a group of allied organizations, gathered by our partners at Episcopal City Mission, will be hosting leadership from the Massachusetts TPS Committee for an online update on our work. More information about the event, including registration details, is below.

We could also use your financial support now more than ever. We are working hard to bring together TPS holders from across Massachusetts, along with our allies, to fight to protect TPS and work toward a path to permanent residency. Please donate today!

In solidarity,

Doris Landaverde & Jose Urias

Massachusetts TPS Committee Co-Coordinators
